Hello, WLAM readers!
Annie here, writing with an update on our newsletter. Lisa and I are both in very full seasons of life at the moment and have decided to scale back our weekly posts to twice per month. My work life has been extra challenging with ongoing legislation effects on higher ed (boo). Lisa just started a new job (yay). And while this season with our kids feels like a happy-kind-of-full time, the melting emoji is popping into most frequently used 🫠.
With that in mind, we want to share 4 things that can make your life easier this week:
Podcast about how to deal with difficult people. I am not always a big Mel Robbins fan but this one really hit for me. If you’ve ever struggled with saying too much when digging into it with someone difficult, this is a great listen.
Poplin laundry service. Our washer wasn’t working last week and my friend Anna told me about this service that she described as Uber for laundry. I haven’t used it myself yet but she has had great experience with it so far. It gave me peace of mind when I wasn’t sure when our washer would be up and running and I’m planning to keep it in my back pocket for the next time I feel like I’m drowning in dirty clothes.
Duckbill AI. I am trying to figure out ways I can optimize and outsource where I can to save my energy for what matters most. This is another service that I haven’t personally used yet but am super curious about. The service is a combo of real people and AI and you can assign lots of different tasks that you might be dreading - think sorting out an insurance claim or booking logistics for a trip. Will report back once I give it a go and would love to hear if you’ve used it!
Nori Steam / Iron Press. If you a) have ever used a hair straightener to smooth a hem; b) generally hate ironing but also don’t want to be a wrinkled mess; c) have had a hotel iron ruin your clothes; or d) identify with all of the above - this is for you. It won’t make a shirt as crisp as a dry cleaners, but this iron/steam combo does indeed work better and much more safely than the ole hair straightener.
It’s been really heartening to hear readers say things like, “omg, so glad it’s not just me,” after we post on Mondays. We remain committed to sharing our experiences in this forum with the hope of helping you feel less alone, and we feel this change will allow us to keep showing up.
Thanks for reading!
