What is Working Like a Mother?
Working Like a Mother (WLAM) is a weekly newsletter for women who need a sanity check.
Mission
All moms work. Some moms have paid jobs. We write this newsletter to help you keep going while laughing or crying (or both. Often both.)
We tell the truth as we sort through the chaos and complexities of working like a mother.
Vision
We believe that women can save the world.
We put our experiences into words to create a world where our daughters feel free to be wholly themselves.
That’s a world where equity in and outside of our homes is the norm; where women are free to pursue a wide range of ambitions, make their own choices, and ditch unwanted expectations.
Who writes Working Like a Mother?
WLAM is co-written by high-school bffs, Annie Straka and Lisa Schultz.
We are two recovering honors students channeling our existential angst into a creative outlet to help other women who are working like a mother stay sane.
Hi 👋 I’m Annie Straka, mom to 1 girl and 2 boys. I work full-time as an Associate Dean at the University of Cincinnati. I grew up a dancer and love art in all forms. I don’t have one karaoke song, I have a catalogue. I don’t know any of my passwords and I never follow a recipe exactly as directed.
Hi 👋, I’m Lisa McGann, mom to two boys and one girl. Fan of the Oxford comma, midwestern diction, and ice cream. And pizza. And pretzels. 🥨 I’m currently sharing stories from my PR career as a lecturer at Wharton and coming to terms with being the “swing state suburban white mom” demo.
